Rocky Mountain Infectious Diseases got its roots when Dr. Mark Dowell moved to Wyoming from Houston, Texas in 1992, and strove to enhance the evaluation and management of patients with infection issues in our state and region. He saw a huge need, as no doctors in the State of Wyoming offered the medical specialty of Infectious Diseases.
Through educational lectures, care clinics in surrounding communities, international antibiotic research trials, hospital infection control policy development, and 24 hour availability, Dr. Dowell prompted major changes to the care of patients experiencing infectious disease complications. Steady growth led to a name change in the late 1990’s to Rocky Mountain Infectious Diseases, also known as RMID.
Through hard work, availability, and state-of-the-art specialty care, we have expanded our scope of services to include seven regional clinics, outpatient intravenous antibiotic services, the role of County Health Officer, wound care, travel medicine, and antibiotic stewardship, including regional infection control policy. This expansion has allowed us to better serve the changing needs of the community in Central Wyoming and around the state.
We are a team of over 26 employees, 4 board certified physicians, a highly mentored nurse practitioner and physician’s assistant. Our vision is to deliver expert care with a friendly, personalized Wyoming touch.
